During last years Flanders Hydraulics Research (FHR) has developed hydrodynamic numerical models (2D) for the simulation of water levels and flow velocities in the Scheldt estuary and Belgian coastal zone. For this purpose a so called ‘model train’ is used where bigger models with a rougher grid resolution produce boundary conditions for smaller and finer models.
This study describes the set up and validation of the first two models in this 'model train': CSM and ZUNO for year 2013. In the framework of the project 13_131 'Bevaarbaarheid van de Boven Zeeschelde' the navigability of the Scheldt estuary will be studied with the help of the detailed Telemac model. The boundary conditions for this model will be calculated with the ZUNO model.
