Abstract
The TBT CLEAN project aims to provide an integrated solution for the permanent removal of TBT from waterways near ports and inland ship repair yards in order to support the implementation of Directive 1999/51/EC (and COM/2002/0396 final, Proposal for a Regulation of the European parliament and of the council on the Prohibition of Organotin Compounds on Ships).

The TBT CLEAN project has four main goals:

  • to briefly assess the environmental impact of already available alternatives for TBT;
  • to determine the release of TBT from sediments into the aquatic environment during dredging operations;
  • to test several treatment technologies for TBT contaminated sediments;
  • to check reuse possibilities for cleaned sediments.
