Description
The Marine Regions gazetteer is a standard list of marine geographical place names and locations with associated information on the geographical location of these entities. more
The Marine Regions gazetteer is a standard list of marine geographical place names and locations. Objects from different sources (authoritative databases, ecological classifications,...) are integrated into one database. Where possible, the geometry of these sources is included and displayed in the gazetteer. In addition, conceptual information (e.g. type of object) is added to the objects, and they are included in a hierarchy. Each object is assigned a unique ID (MRGID), which allows for unambiguous reference to the objects. The Marine Regions gazetteer is part of the LifeWatch project, and serves as a geographical basis for biodiversity databases, global fisheries research and maritime applications, among other things. In addition, the data was released as a Linked Data Event Stream in July 2021.
