Abstract
The main aim of this study is to develop a simple methodology for simulating the gravity currents observed in a lock chamber.

The results of a number of experimental tests showed the suitability of the Delft3D model (run in 2Dv hydrostatic mode in combination with mobile vertical gates) to simulate the exchange processes in a lock.

It would be interesting to evaluate other codes that allow the implementation of non-hydrostatic simulations and gates with horizontal movement. Telemac and a CFD code could be used as an alternative.
