The harbour of Antwerp has to adapt to a twofold evolution. On the one hand, the structure of European traffic is affected by the opening to Eastern Europe. On the other hand, the technical and economic conditions of shipping are being altered by a higher competition. It seems that the Belgian harbour is taking up the challenge, as it is both thriving and well located in Europe. Even if all difficulties have not been solved, the harbour is profiting from an improvement in the quality of its servicings and in the efficiency of its infrastructure.
