Before the Westerschelde between Antwerp and the North Sea could be dredged the positions of shipwrecks had to be determined. A survey using the dedicated survey vessel 'Lodycke' equipped with a multibeam sonar and a Klein sidescan sonar located wrecks on the seabed or partially covered by sediment, but was unable to locate buried wrecks. A SeaSpy magnetometer from Marine Magnetics Cooperation was selected for this task. The magnetometer was fitted to a Chelsea Instruments Nu-Shuttle. Using this assembly, the 'Lodycke' survey crew were able to locate all wrecks.
