Description Length: 27-38 cm. Plumage: male greenish black on crown and back; wings buff; neck and wing patches ashy buff or deep russet brown; buff foreneck and chest streaked with light brown; female like male but green replaced with dull brown feathers with paler edges. Immature mottled above and streaked below with brown on reddish buff. Bare parts: iris yellow; lores yellow (dull red in courtship); bill yellow to greenish yellow with darker culmen; feet and legs green with yellow on back of tarsus and soles of feet. Habitat: mangroves at coast, edges of inland water bodies. <388><393><391> [details]
