From editor or global species database
Introduced species remark It is not known whether Monocorophium sextonae is an alien species in Europe where it was first described by Crawford from England, or in New Zealand where Hurley later discovered it. Therefore, the amphipod is considered as origin uncertain. The species was first recorded in Belgium in the summer of 1993, in samples taken along the west coast. The amphipod was reported in the harbour of Zeebrugge, in the Scheldt estuary and on shipwrecks in front of the Belgian coast. The species is epifaunal, such as on algae, sponges and artificial substrata, from the intertidal zone to a depth of 50 m. Of course, this depth limit may be due to locally available habitat and not actual depth limits. [details]
