Description
The aims of the study are:
- to better understand the biogeochemical processes influencing the immobilization and/or remobilization of metals in the sedimentary phase
- to estimate possible fluxes of metals from the sediment to the aqueous phase more
Six sites in the Scheldt estuary, chosen as a function of bottom characteristics and salinity gradient, are studied seasonally. Instruments used : (1) GFAAS, Perkin Elmer; (2) ICP-MS, VG; (3) Auto analyzer, Technicon; (4) C/N analyzer, Carlo Erba Scope Themes: Coastal studies (e.g. shores, estuaries), Geology - Geophysics - Sedimentation, Geology - Geophysics - Sedimentation > Sediments - rocks - pore waters, Water composition Keywords: Marine/Coastal, Brackish water, Carbon, Heavy metals, Interstitial water, Nutrients (mineral), Quality, Sediments, ANE, Scheldt Estuary, Belgium, Zeeschelde Temporal coverage
