During last years Flanders Hydraulics Research (FHR) has developed hydrodynamic numerical models (2D) for the simulation of water levels and flow velocities in the Scheldt estuary and Belgian coastal zone. For this purpose a so called ‘model train’ is used where bigger models with a rougher grid resolution produce boundary conditions for smaller and finer models.
This study describes the set up and validation of the first two models in this ‘model train’: DCSMv5 and ZUNOv3 for the simulated year 2014. The model run 2014 is set up in order to generate the boundary conditions for the morphodynamic models of the Scheldt mouth currently under development by Deltares in collaboration with Flanders Hydraulics Research within the framework of the Agenda for the Future project.
