Development of models for the analysis of salt intrusion in the Scheldt river basin: sub report 2. Methodology lock exchange
Heredia, M.; Vanderkimpen, P.; Vanlede, J.; Mostaert, F. (2017). Development of models for the analysis of salt intrusion in the Scheldt river basin: sub report 2. Methodology lock exchange. Version 4.0. FHR reports, 13_035_2. Flanders Hydraulics Research: Antwerp. VIII, 25 pp.
The main aim of this study is to develop a simple methodology for simulating the gravity currents observed in a lock chamber.
The results of a number of experimental tests showed the suitability of the Delft3D model (run in 2Dv hydrostatic mode in combination with mobile vertical gates) to simulate the exchange processes in a lock.
It would be interesting to evaluate other codes that allow the implementation of non-hydrostatic simulations and gates with horizontal movement. Telemac and a CFD code could be used as an alternative.
