A research project has started to investigate the effects of the reduction of the tidal movements ; the second aim of the research project is to indicate means to minimize these effects. The aim of this paper is to predict the effects of the plans for the final stage, and possible variants thereof, in so far as it is possible to make such predictions in the light of current knowledge. The storm-surge barrier became operational in October 1986. The Oester- and Philipsdam were completed in October 1986 and April 1987 respectively. During the final construction stage some minor effects on the ecosystem were found. The only exception was a more severe erosion of the In the present situation the tidal range is 3.25 m. The salt content is according to the predictions.
