INBO researchers surveyed fish assemblages in Kruibeke-Bazel-Rupelmonde, a future flood coltrol area-wetland (Fig. 1 and Table 1). The Balkstaftwissel and the Cuestagracht, two small brooks, were sampled with electric fishing. In the Dijksloot seinenetting was used while in the Rupelmondse kreek both electric fishing and fyke netting were applied. Physical and chemical recordings showed that the Balkstaftwissel and the Cuestagracht areheavily polluted (Table 3). The Dijksloot and Rupelmondse kreek are less polluted. In total 19 fish species were recorded of which three, the Wels catfish, ruffe and bleak were only found in the Rupelmondse kreek (Tables 4, 5 and6). The results indicate the presence of a diverse fish assemblage of mainly eurytopic and limnophilic species in the Rupelmondse kreek and Dijksloot. In the other brooks no fish were caught.
