Expertise

Dr. Ulrike Braeckman is a postdoctoral research fellow of the Fund for Scientific Research (FWO) , Flanders investigating the interplay between benthic biogeochemistry and biodiversity in polar marine ecosystems in a global warming context. During her joint PhD at Ghent University and NIOZ Yerseke (NL) , she investigated the role of North Sea macrobenthos in structuring sediment biogeochemistry, meiofauna community organization and food dynamics and food webs by means of laboratory experiments, in situ sampling and trophic biomarker analysis. Ulrike is now involved in projects studying benthic biogeochemistry and biodiversity in a changing environment in several regions in the world.
